A Grappa Twenty Years in the Making: Introducing "Dedicata a Susanna," Our Reserve of the Century!
We are thrilled to share news that's been quietly maturing (or, rather, aging in a barrique!) for twenty years.
In the heart of the Distilleria Gualco, in Silvano d’Orba, this Spring we broke the customs seal that guarded a treasure: an exceptional Grappa Riserva, extracted after 20 years and 3 months of solitary aging in a single barrique.
This Grappa is much more than a distillate: it’s a living chapter of our history.
"Dedicata a Susanna": An Homage Steeped in History
This year, 2025, is a year of special celebrations for us. We are marking the 155th anniversary of Distilleria Gualco and, above all, the 100th anniversary of the birth of our grandmother, Susanna Gualco.
That is why, as owner Giorgio Soldatini explains:
"Twenty years ago, in 2005, my father Alessandro and I set aside a grappa with extremely high organoleptic characteristics for aging. We left it in a single barrique sealed by the Customs Office. I dedicate this bottle to my grandmother Susanna, a great grappa maker and my unforgettable teacher."
Thus, the "Dedicata a Susanna" Grappa Riserva is born: a Grappa of incredible elegance, body, and structure, whose aromatic profile has been chiseled by time.
The Details of a Unique Grappa
Its uniqueness lies in the care and patience that have accompanied it:
Vintage / Grape Pomace: 2004 Grape skins of Dolcetto, Barbera, and other red grape varietals from the hills of Alto Monferrato.
Distillation: October 2004, discontinuous with our historic Piedmontese-style bain-marie still.
Barrique: Single acacia wood barrique (225 l.) of medium toast (Garbellotto Barrel Factory).
Aging: 20 years and 3 months (7,399 days) under customs seal (from February 2, 2005, to May 7, 2025).
The Angels’ Share: 65 liters (the tribute of time!).
The Final Result: 160 liters bottled at 49% vol.
An Extremely Limited Edition
Given the aging in a single cask, availability is very restricted:
110 bottles (700 ml.) numbered
208 bottles (350 ml.) numbered
208 Mignon (50 ml.) numbered
Each bottle will be presented in a special wooden case and will feature the numbering on both the label and the case.
Where and When to Discover It?
We are pleased to announce that the "Dedicata a Susanna" Grappa Riserva will be exclusively previewed during our annual festival, "The Distillery is Open!":
