The Hills Between Ovada and Acqui Terme

Enchanting and close to Silvano are the hills that lead from Ovada to Acqui Terme. This is a land of red wines. For those arriving from Liguria, it's the beginning of Monferrato, a vast hilly area covered with vineyards that extends almost to Turin, passing through Asti and Casale Monferrato.

Here, Ovada Docg is produced from Dolcetto grapes, a wonderful raw material also for many of our grappas, but we must not forget Barbera del Monferrato, Cortese, and the passito wines of Strevi.

If you arrive in Acqui Terme, an ancient Roman spa town with an elegant historic center, you can spend a pleasant afternoon exploring its attractions.

In the town center, very hot sulphurous water springs from the Bollente source, there are various centers for thermal treatments or relaxing days in spas, and numerous cultural attractions such as the cathedral, the Roman pool, and Villa Ottolenghi.

In the charming historic center of Ovada, there are numerous restaurants and trattorias in the evening where you can savor the specialties of the cuisine that borders Piedmont and Liguria.

The cuisine of Ovada, like that of Gavi, is dominated by agnolotti and ravioli. Sometimes called one way and sometimes another, the best are made with thin pasta filled with meat and sometimes borage or marjoram. They can be eaten with sauce or "a culo nudo" (plain, without condiments), or traditionally in a steaming cup of Dolcetto d'Ovada wine.

In Acqui, don't forget to taste "filetto baciato" and robiola from Roccaverano.
