Experts generally divide grappa into the following categories: young grappas, young aromatic grappas, refined grappas, refined aromatic grappas, aged grappas, aged aromatic grappas, and flavoured grappas.
The latter have a medicinal plant or fruit added to them to give a hint of taste to the grappa.
In the 1990s, Susanna Gualco decided to create a grappa that did not belong in any of these categories. She therefore decided to flavour a grappa that had been aged for 9 years with antique roses she had grown in her vegetable garden.
This product is still one of the flagship items on our production line, and if you happen to come by in and around May or June, you will see that the rose garden is still in our vegetable garden, in front of the rue plants and next to the lemon verbena.
